At The Family Well, pelvic floor therapy helps you reconnect, restore balance, and move with confidence through personalized, holistic care.
Every client receives individualized care designed to restore function and connection — not just reduce symptoms.
Pelvic floor therapy can help with:
Our goal is to help you understand why symptoms occur, teach strategies for daily life, and guide you toward long-term comfort and resilience.
All care is provided in a safe, trauma-informed environment. You are always in control of what happens during your session.
1. What exactly is pelvic floor therapy?
Pelvic floor therapy focuses on the muscles, fascia, and nerves that support the bladder, uterus, and bowel. Treatment helps restore normal function for better comfort, control, and alignment — whether you’re recovering after birth, managing tension, or improving core strength.
2. Do I need a referral?
In most cases, no referral is required to begin occupational therapy pelvic health services. However, if you plan to submit a superbill for insurance reimbursement, some plans may require a physician’s note.
3. What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothing that allows movement — such as leggings, joggers, or yoga pants. You’ll remain clothed for most of the session. If internal work is part of your plan, you’ll be draped appropriately and given full control over participation.
4. Will there be an internal exam?
An internal exam is always optional. It can provide helpful information about muscle coordination and tension, but many clients benefit from external-only care through breath, movement, and education. Consent is discussed at every session.
5. How soon after birth can I start therapy?
Pelvic floor therapy can begin as early as 6 weeks postpartum with medical clearance. Sessions are adapted based on your healing stage, delivery type, and comfort level.
6. How many sessions will I need?
Every body is different. Some clients see noticeable improvement in 2–3 visits, while others benefit from ongoing care for several months, especially after birth or surgery.
7. Do you take insurance?
We are an out-of-network provider. You will receive a superbill after each session that can be submitted to your insurance for possible reimbursement. HSA/FSA cards are also accepted.
8. Can this help even if I’ve never had a baby?
Absolutely. Pelvic floor therapy supports anyone experiencing pelvic pain, urinary issues, or muscle tension — regardless of gender, age, or birth history.
9. Is this therapy only for postpartum clients?
Not at all. We also support individuals with chronic pelvic pain, endometriosis, post-surgical recovery, bowel or bladder challenges, and anyone seeking preventative care or body awareness.
